About Us

Who We Are

WAPTA are the Winterbourne Academy (WA) Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) for many years we were known as the Friends of Winterbourne Academy. We area a registered charity.  We are a voluntary association of parents, staff and community members who work for the benefit of the pupils of the Academy and to support the school community.

We seek to do this by creating stronger links between the school, parents, and the local community, and also via practical activities such as fundraising to provide additional resources for the school pupils which they would not otherwise have access to. Over the years the school community has received tremendous support and generous financial aid thanks to our volunteers.

All parents and teachers, teachers and alumni are invited to support the PTA, either by becoming a member of the committee, by volunteering to help at events, by joining the school lottery, making donations or simply participating in our various fundraising & social activities.

Winterbourne Academy is a vibrant and highly successful academy set in a rural location in South Gloucestershire. It is the largest secondary school in the county.

What We Do

Fundraising

We raise on average about £4,000 a year to fund bids proposed by the school to improve the environment, education, opportunities and surroundings for the students of Winterbourne Academy which cannot be provided by the school.

Empowering Learning & Fighting Poverty

Some of the funds we raise as well as our initiatives in the community are directed to help those families struggling most. We help organise food drives to help support local food banks.  We also made a £4,000 donation to the school to help support home learning for students and their families struggling during the Covid-19 epidemic.

Supporting the Community

We feel that everyone has a duty to make the world a little bit better for having us in it. We work to help Winterbourne Academy, it’s students and their families do this by being an active participant in the community through activities, environmental and charitable initiatives and by supporting local events, businesses and groups.

Mission Statement

Our mission as the Winterbourne Academy Parent and Teacher Association is providing support to the school by running events,  running beneficial projects & social functions, provision of refreshments etc at school events and organising fundraising. Funds raised pay for school-related projects – typically allowing us to meet the cost of bids submitted by school staff, pupils, clubs or societies.

Our Core Values

We have a culture that is friendly, inclusive, proactive, and enthusiastic. We want our children and  students to have a brighter future with more opportunities and for the school to have a valued place in the local community. We are determined in our approach to bettering the facilities and opportunities of the school and its students. We are creative in our thinking, and bold in our ambitions.

Our Philosophy

We strive to be committed to the students we are privileged to serve, and our community and the dedicated, talented faculty and staff. We also take pride in having the most active and helpful group of partners, visionary parents, well-wishers, alumni and friends.
